What happens after a story goes viral?

Last week I covered a story about my friend Cynthia being victimized by a man named Steven Rael (aka Xae Sanchez). He has been using photo’s of Cynthia to post fake ads on Craigslist in an attempt to trick men into having sex with him.  Steven happens to be Cynthia’s cousin by marriage. You can read the original story here.

Cynthia, after numerous attempts of asking Steven to stop using her photos (he has been placing the ads continuously for over three years), on-going complaints to Cragslist directly asking they help her stop the harassment, and after having the ads ruin both her social and professional lives, she finally went to the police for help only to be told there was nothing they could do. Despite the overwhelming stack of evidence against Steven as well as his prior criminal record, there currently is not a law against stealing and impersonating someone by using their photo’s IF you refrain from using their name.

There is a law being proposed by the New Mexico Legislature that could change all that. You can view the law here.

Out of desperation, Cynthia asked me to post her story, seeking help from the public and you guys came through!

Overnight, Cynthia’s story was shared repeatedly on Facebook and within hours several more of Steven’s victims had come forward.

The next day Cynthia was invited to the KOB 4 news station in Albuquerque to share her story on TV. You can watch the original broadcast here.

Unfortunately not everyone was supportive of Cynthia coming forward including a close family relative who decided to tip Steven off. Immediately he began stalking my blog and leaving vicious comments under three different aliases attempting to discredit and villainize Cynthia.

First Steven calls himself “Nathan” and accuses Cynthia of being mentally ill.

We knew it was Steven right away so he came back  to comment, this time calling himself “Tina.”

Then he returned again under the name “Laverne.”

“I know I have plenty of enemies and I don’t want them doing this to me BECAUSE THEY CAN. Think about it.”

Was Steven now threatening ME?

What an “Ediot” 😀

Even though he has been clearly recognized, Steven keeps the harassment going.

Unfortunately Steven’s harassment was not limited to my blog. He also took on aliases on Facebook and began bombarding Cynthia there as well.  Steven stole more people’s identities and began creating fake profiles with their pictures.

First Steven stole the identity of a man named “Mike Martinez.”

Then, “Adam Corley.”

Victims began coming forward.

The following day, two more victims had come forward and KOB 4 covered their story as well.

Steven had written a letter pretending to be the wife of the couple and distributed it across their neighborhood (as well as “the war zone”) inviting strangers into the couples house for “anonymous sex” while the husband was at work. Frighted by the amount of sex crazed strangers appearing at their front door (one man even entered without knocking while the wife was home alone) the couple had no choice but to sell their home and move!

Until Cynthia’s story went live, the police could not yet confirm that it was in fact Steven who was responsible for the letter.

You can watch their story here.

None of this detoured Steven in the slightest. Once the news broke that Cynthia was going to share her story with KOB 4, Steven had a family member terrorize Cynthia by calling her and telling her the police were on their way to arrest her for using his name and pictures online!

IRONIC?!?!?

Steven STILL continues to post fake ads on Craigslist! He is STILL giving out his home address where he lives with his own mother!

This is some really sick and twisted shit!

Even though Steven has an extensive criminal record, he STILL remains uncharged of his internet crimes.

I ask that everyone please keep this story circulating on as many media platforms as possible so that more potential victims of Steven Rael can be warned and previous victims will be able to come forward to receive justice!

Steven Rael is a monster, a ruiner of lives and he must be stopped!

If you have ANY information on this case PLEASE come forward!

  1. She has been a lifesaver for me, she’s helped me get my life back. I feel so empowered by her strength and I can’t say thank you enough. I truly have the best of friends.

  2. This guy’s got more than a few screws loose, and now that he’s finally being exposed publicly, he’s lashing out at those who’ve shown the wider world what he’s been up to. He won’t stop until a higher authority stops him, and unfortunately, the law is slow to catch up to crimes of this nature. Keep at it, though. Now that his activities are known to the police and to the public at large, the political pressure to enact sensible laws to address this can be applied.

  3. WTF is wrong with people?? Wow I thought I had a rough time going viral. This is 1000x worse. By the way fellas…anytime a girl has to say “this is real”, um yeah it’s a dude. Jeez, my heart goes out to Cynthia.

      • Thank you! It’s so insane. it took me a whole year to process what had happened. I keep reading stories like mine, Cynthia’s etc, of innocent people just having their lives bulldozed for no reason. Thanks for making me aware of this story, and I’m so glad Cynthia’s story has the opportunity to create positive change in the legal system. When something so horrifying happens, you become consumed with making sure it doesn’t happen to anyone else. Cynthia, you have a supporter here in NYC!

  4. What a loon. I wish the national media would pick up this story but they are reluctant to run stories in which gay men are the perps. Filing a lawsuit against him won’t do any good because I’ll bet he has no assets. He lives with his mother? LOL.

Pressuring law enforcement to put him in prison this time is the only way to stop him and that may not work if he has access to a computer in prison.

Good luck to the victims. Short of hiring a thug to beat him up I don’t know what to suggest.
